A renovation of a cottage.

Finally the shed office is watertight

By ferg at 11:25 pm on Monday, September 28, 2009

I managed to find time amongst all the box moving and unpacking to get the windows of my shed glazed. So now it’s watertight. About time really!

This is home ! / Notre “chez-nous” !

By LN at 9:39 am on Sunday, September 27, 2009

Et voila, since Friday we have completed on the other house and handed over the keys to the new owner… This also means that we have finally managed to fit in all our stuff in the new place ! Here is home :

And the “apero corner” :-)

Everything is in, I confirm…

Some things are still outside and on the patio (and in the sheds !). Thanks to the dry and sunny weather :

A few shots before we fully moved in / Juste avant l’arrivee des cartons

By LN at 9:20 am on Sunday, September 27, 2009

This is how it looked like before we brought everything in. We’ve finally managed to sand and oil the floor downstairs in the evenings after work. It was hard work as we also had to pack and prepare the boxes to be ready for the moving. But it was worthwhile I think. We will paint the rooms later on.

Slowly moving in….. / On emmenage petit a petit…

By LN at 9:42 pm on Thursday, September 17, 2009

We’ve started by moving stuff upstairs while the builders finish off downstairs, and also to give us time to sand and oil the downstairs floor.

The kitchen / la cuisine aussi se refait une beaute

By LN at 9:28 pm on Thursday, September 17, 2009

I’m actually enjoying comparing the old photos with the new ones… The kitchen also got “revamped”. It’s even nicer now with our nice sink unit.

And after (it has already changed, but I haven’t had time to take some new photos):

Now it’s actually fully tiled. Check the utility room (used to be the bathroom and used to be black and pink !):

About sanding and painting / Poncage et peinture

By LN at 9:24 pm on Thursday, September 17, 2009

Oops, this is a while since I last posted something here… Well, here is one example of what has kept us busy lately : sanding and painting the bedrooms. I tell you what : I’ll never sand again ! Ever ! But I have to say, the result makes it worthwhile. Let’s see how it looked like

Solar hot water tank

By ferg at 9:44 pm on Wednesday, September 9, 2009

The hot water tank was finally moved into it’s purpose built cupboard. It’s a bit of a beast (300 litres) and along with all the associated pressure vessels makes that cupboard a little cramped.

The system has 4 sq metres of flat panel collectors pointed south. It’s from Velux and has an unvented tank. It’s also got an extra pump in there to heat a radiator in the bathroom.

Kitchen floor

By ferg at 9:34 pm on Wednesday, September 9, 2009

The kitchen floor is looking pretty nice. We were debating between quarry tiles and slate, but ended up with slate. So far we’re pleased….. The picture is a few days old, as the walls are also tiled now.

The chimney breast in the main bedroom has been repointed in lime mortar and cleaned with water, a brush and elbow grease. It has come up lovely!
