Ridge tiles
The ridge tiles were placed at the end of last week.
They still need to be placed on the bathroom roof. Those slates do look nice though. Much nicer than the ones on the main roof.

The garden seems to be a real attraction for butterflies. It could be that there’s plenty of Buddleja growing in the garden. Apparently that attracts them.
There’s a piece of plywood behind my office that seems to be a real attraction for them:
One of the butterflies I keep seeing is this one. I’ve gotta admit I’ve never seen this one before.
That’s it, the beam is now in place, check it out :
Apparently there were 5 guys holding this up there ! But they also used this :
And here is the inglenook fireplace finally empty :
It makes a difference to what it was like before (see below). It is taking shape, isn’t it ? (please say yes !)
The inglenook was fully opened up today. First the steels were inserted into the cheeks, and then concrete leaves were placed in the channels of these two steels.
Then the rest of the infill was removed.
The steel is unfortunately on show, but was absolutely required. Without these the structure would be fairly unsafe. I’m sure we can paint this and hide it. If we hate it we can drop the bressumer to cover it.
The Solar panel is finally on the roof. We can now finish the roof tiling. We’ve gone for a Velux flat panel one. Nowhere near as efficient as evacuated tube ones, but this one will be integrated into the roof rather than stand proud of it, and with 4 sq metres of panel will provide us with sufficient hot water even in the depths of winter.
We’re also driving the bathroom radiator from this (Air to air heat pump for space heating). With the size of the roof we have to play with, I’m am already starting to regret not having more radiators work with this! Mind you I’m not sure that this tank (direct unvented) will fit in that corner, never mind a larger one!
We’re putting 3 oak beams and two posts holding those up. The oak arrived today. I know they were large, but one could not even fit in the door! I pity who has to lift the large one up!
I spent a good few hours this weekend putting in the network cable. The electrician has been doing the first fix and this seems a logical time to do it.
How am I going to fit all these into the patch panel?
