The inglenook fireplace appears to have had at least four incarnations over the years.
We originally thought that we’d just need to remove the brick infill and our lovely Inglenook would be waiting for a wood burning stove. However once we’d removed this we found another brick infill which looks almost as if it was the base for some sort of cast iron range.
We removed this, and found yet another brick support. What this was for we do not know, but it’s pretty knackered and built off rubble. What seems to be a theme for the builder(s) of this house in years past.
At this stage we really do need some supports.
The structural engineer is now saying we need some steel beams across here, with some concrete lintels to form a platform to hold the chimney up.
